Each class has two teachers, at least one of whom is Montessori-certified.

Program for Older Children

The curriculum in the program for older children expands from the Montessori base, becoming more open and more academic. The program is individualized and appropriate for children in first through third grades. The basic skills of reading, writing and math are strongly emphasized. The child explores abstract concepts with increasing ease as well as writing, producing plays and participating in regular music, art, foreign language and gym programs. Teachers seek to foster the child’s curiosity and children are helped to develop skills of inquiry and to keep their own records. Children take on increasing responsibility in the management of the classes.

Children go from South County Montessori School to a wide variety of schools, both independent and public, prepared to learn in many different kinds of educational environments.
